Body Not Fit For Purpose
Jonathan Burrows / Matteo Fargion
We are delighted to welcome the world renowned choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer Matteo Fargion to LLAWN03.
Within the befitting setting of the Tabernacle Vestry the two men will start with Both Sitting Duet, the performance which made their reputation back in 2002, setting the tone for an original mix of humour and fierce intelligence that marks out what they do. A little later in the day they will present their newest work, Body Not Fit For Purpose, a commission from the 2014 Venice Biennale which clashes angry politics against the empty joy of dancing, unravelling the link between meaning and action and raising questions in the midst of our laughter.
“It was certainly one of the funniest and most ingenious dances seen in New York in a long time.”
The New York Times
“I emerged from the French premiere of Both Sitting Duet in a veritable glow, my world expanded, its walls tumbling down.”
“Absurdist self-indulgence you’ll be thinking, but what you see is revelation and joy.”
The Evening Standard, London
“One of the most enchanting things I’ve ever seen.”
The Daily Telegraph, London
“By now we ought to be accustomed to the surprises the wry, spry and elegant pairing of Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion keep springing on us, but somehow we’re not; they’ve always got an extra rabbit in the hat to take us unawares.”
Ballet Magazine, UK
Both Sitting Duet and Body Not Fit For Purpose are supported by public funding through the National Lottery from Arts Council England.
Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion are co-produced by Kaaitheater Brussels, PACT Zollverein Essen, Sadler’s Wells Theatre London and BIT Teatergarasjen Bergen.
