CHILD’S CINEMA

Child’s Cinema : Catrin Doyle

An interactive cinema experience that children can power themselves.

The Child’s Cinema collection consists of four pieces;-

  1. The ‘Phasmatrope’; an interpretation of the original Victorian invention which combined zoetrope with the ‘Magic Lantern’ projections. The moving pictures transport you to a Llandudno childhood of yesteryear.
  2. A cycle-powered Zoetrope: made from recycled bicycle parts this mechanism is fully interactive, with the ‘film’ revealing itself as you get pedalling! A chance to see animation at work.
  3. The Dial-a-trope: a miniature zoetrope on the rim of your classic retro rotary style phone, revealed as you dial. Doubles up as a sound installation, as the handset is wired for sound.
  4. Flippin’ arm chair; A beautiful classic piece of upholstery with velveteen accessories, which on further inspection reveal themselves as miniature flip book animation.
